Over the Moon!

What a great event in Crozet, Virginia yesterday at Over the Moon Bookstore! I had a wonderful time meeting readers and relaxing with cookies, crafts, and cosutmes. Here's a very special
mermaid who swam over to hear the story:
And a few pictures of the reading in action:
Thanks to all who came out for the evening, especially those who recommended the delicious Crozet Pizza next door. And an extra special thanks to the good samaritan in Harrisonburg who helped us with a flat tire on
the way home - we are forever grateful.
Happy Summer and I'll see you in August!
A Lovely Day at Hooray for Books!

Thanks to all of you who came to my storytime signing yesterday at Hooray for Books! It was a lot of fun creating sea-themed crafts and reading from my new book, When Mermaids Sleep. Here's a peek at the festivities:
For more pictures of the fun, check out Hooray for Books! on Facebook.
Hope you can join me next Saturday at Over the Moon Bookstore in Charlottesville, VA for a milk and cookie storytime with crafts and signing. To celebrate When Mermaids Sleep, you can come in your jammies or dressed as you favorite fantastical character. Can't wait to see you!

So it seems that I haven't posted an update since last June! Despite my best intentions to check in more often, time slips
away. 2013 has been an exciting year, with three new books out in the world. Here there are!
The Frazzle Family Finds a Way - Holiday House, January 2013
I am Not a Copycat! - OUP/Simon and Schuster, May 2013
When Mermaids Sleep - Random House, May 2013
I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out, and I am so pleased
to share them with readers. For some behind the scenes thoughts on the process, check out my guest post at the OUP blog Children's Books Voices.
Last fall I was able to preview my books at two events in November. The first was a lovely book fair
at the Cummer Museum in Jacksonville Florida, and the next was the SCBWI conference in Lancaster Pennsylvania where I conducted
several workshops for picture book writers.
This spring I enjoyed reading to kids at two great events - one with
the enthusiastic students at Woodlawn Elementary, and another with families at Chinn Park Library, whose creative children
designed Hugo and Bella bookmarks! Much fun.
I can't wait for the next round of events this summer - stay tuned for
details. Connecting with readers is one of the best parts of being a writer, and I look forward to bringing these new stories
to new friends soon. Hope to see you!
